Targeting Science

University Club

The Business, Science and Practice of Targeting Large Ore Deposits

This workshop is designed to take exploration leaders, managers and their teams to the next level of discovery efficiency. You will learn how to manage the translation of mineralising systems through targeting science and the generation of projects to tenement acquisition, portfolio ranking and prioritisation. The use of data, templates and psychology in targeting will all be included in a new toolkit that will be used in workshop exercises and available for you to take back to immediately use in your mineral exploration and mining business.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • How to embrace uncertainty in Minerals Targeting Science, and target effectively  with low density irregularly sampled data?
  • Patterns and Periodicity in minerals distributions
  • From complex systems ideas to robust targeting models
  • Digitisation of the Mining Value Chain: exploration to remediation
  • The Targeting Process and feedback from “Flearning”
  • Interface with Scenarios – seeing 15 years into the future
  • Managing Exploration portfolios for discovery success
  • Leading discovery teams – trust, confidence, culture
  • Technology, innovation and paradigm shifts for targeting
  • Greenfield or Brown? What is the right strategy for your company?

Defining the science needed to target ore deposits. Interface from mineralising systems to targeting. Patternicity and fractals: wild cards or silver bullets? Decision milestones and critical paths.

Interface with access to land, talent and technology. A question of scale: why is targeting new opportunities at camp scale so hard? How to advance targets efficiently and effectively toward discovery?

Digitisation of the Exploration Value Chain: links to Mineralising systems and targeting science. Innovation for resource modelling.

Discovery case histories and the targeting reality behind them. Culture, boundary spanners and luck. The Future: what will we be mining in 15 years? What should we be targeting today?

Two Day Workshop
$1800.00

Early Bird Tickets for the two day workshop, held on Wednesday the 4th & Thursday the 5th of Decemeber 2024. 08:15 – 16:30. $1800 including GST. Early Bird offer ends 31st October.

Learn how the proximity or presence of people influences decisions. This requires the learning of new skills that are best mastered in a face-to-face setting where exercises can quickly facilitate gaining one-on-one and one-on-many communication, empathy and influence skills.

Please feel free to bring any electronic device that you like to enhance your learning experience. A tablet or laptop with MSOffice suite (Excel) will be required for Day 2.

Bespoke in-house training is available with option of online delivery for some attendees if required.

Please pre-order any dietary requirements on the registration form.

St Catherine’s College is a residential student college and there is very limited at site parking for members of the public. We suggest you commute to the venue by bus, taxi or Uber.  Most of the UWA all-day parking is located south of the Stirling Highway, so allow time to walk to the venue if you use this.
